Why a Trip to Zion National Park is Worth It

Zion National Park is known as one of the most renowned and beautiful national parks in Utah. Families and couples from all over the world come here to explore the monumental caverns and canyons that Zion is famous for. Are you wondering if it’s the right vacation destination for you? We’ll show you why a trip to Zion is worth it.

It’s a Great Family Vacation

Zion is a great place to come for a family vacation for any age hiker. While there are a couple of hikes that are more intense like The Narrows and Angels Landing, most of the hikes are exceptionally doable for visitors *8 or older. Kids love seeing the local wildlife and picturesque canyons as much as adults do.

*Keep in mind that we at The Tyler Inn at Zion do not allow guests younger than 8 to stay with us.

It’s an Affordable Trip

Entering the national park is incredibly affordable compared to many other vacations. The cost is $30 per vehicle that enters, and if you plan on visiting multiple times in a year a park pass is only $70 a year.

When is the best time to visit Zion?

The most popular time of year to visit Zion is June through August. If you don’t mind crowds (or the heat), this is probably when you should book your stay. If you want a more moderate temperature, you should book your stay in April, May, September, or October.

Parking is Easy

There’s many parking options in Springdale and in Zion National Park itself. After you drive through the park entrance, you’ll see the Zion National Park Visitor Center and its parking to your right. Find your spot and walk to the nearby shuttle—it’s as easy as that!

The Zion Shuttle is Convenient

Some of our guests may be nervous about driving through the park with a sketchy GPS, missing out on their hiking appointment, or losing cell service in a remote section of the canyon. All of those fears should disappear though, because the shuttle running through Zion from March - October is incredibly convenient.

There are currently 8 stops that the shuttles make through the canyon close to many of the most popular hikes in Zion. This streamlines your hiking experiences so you don’t have to get lost in the details.

You Can Do it in One Day

While Zion has enough hikes in its canyons to fill in a month’s itinerary of hikes, you can also feel fully satisfied in a day trip if that’s all you’re able to do.

If you’re doing Angels Landing or the Narrows, that’s probably all you’d want to do for the day, but if you didn’t win the lottery for the canyoneering permit, you can explore some of the other hikes in around a 10 hour span. Here are some of the notable ones:

  • Observation Point
  • Canyon Overlook
  • Pa’rus Trail
  • The Riverwalk
  • Emerald Pools

You Don’t Need to Hike to Enjoy It

While hiking is probably the most popular thing to do in Zion, you don’t need to be a pro trailblazer to have a good time. A few of the shuttle stops don’t even take you to hikes, but lookouts where you can get a good view of the canyon and its wildlife. The Zion Canyon Scenic Drive is a great way to experience the less-hiked portions of the national park. You can drive through it or get a bike rental and ride through.

A few of the stops have notable attractions that aren’t hikes as well. The Court of the Patriarchs and Riverwalk are both easy trails that lead to gorgeous overlooks. You’ll also see the diverse wildlife of Zion on your shuttle ride, such as turkeys, deer, mountain goats, and California condors.

These are just a few of the reasons why Zion National Park makes for an excellent vacation. No matter your physical aptitude, interests, or trip conditions, it makes a good stop on your getaway.
